About Skeinote

What the site does
Skeinote is an independent yarn-planning tool for knitters and crocheters. Choose the yarn named in a pattern, enter the amount the pattern needs, choose another yarn, and the calculator works out a whole-skein yardage equivalent from the catalogue values. It also shows whether both selected records carry the same maker-published weight-category number.
That is a planning calculation, not a substitution verdict. It cannot establish gauge, fabric, drape, durability, color, or whether a particular yarn suits a pattern. Make a swatch before buying yarn for a project.
Skeinote does not sell yarn and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by a manufacturer or retailer named here.
Who runs it
Skeinote is operated by Ansh Deb, sole proprietor trading as Red Mouse Media in India. Red Mouse Media is independent of the yarn makers and retailers mentioned on this site.

The catalogue
The calculator uses individual yarn-line records. Each record has space for the maker, product family, variant, published length and mass, fiber, weight wording, gauge, source page, and the date it was checked. A missing value remains missing instead of being filled from a retailer listing, a forum post, or an estimate.
The catalogue is being expanded and checked record by record. Product pages can change, and a listed record can become stale. Check the yarn label and the maker's current page before relying on a value for a purchase.
What the calculator does not do
It does not say two yarns are interchangeable. It does not resolve gauge, fiber behavior, construction, color, care requirements, availability, or price. When a needed length is absent, or when the makers list different weight-category numbers, it withholds a skein count rather than making a recommendation.
