Privacy

The short version

Skeinote has no visitor accounts, newsletter, checkout, or contact form. The calculator runs in the visitor's browser. Skeinote uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are used and whether the calculator is useful. Google AdSense code is loaded to connect the site for review, but no ad units or affiliate links are active.

Calculator inputs

The yarn lines, quantity, and unit selected in the calculator are used in the browser to produce the displayed result. The current calculator does not send the selected yarns or quantity to Google Analytics, store them in browser storage, or add them to a shareable result URL. It sends the general input unit, such as skeins, yards, metres, or grams, with a completed-calculation event.

The Copy link button copies the page's current address through the browser's clipboard feature. Google Analytics records that the button was used, but the copied address is not included in that event.

Hosting and routine logs

Skeinote is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like most web hosts, Cloudflare may process request information such as IP address, browser details, and the time of a request to deliver and secure the site. Cloudflare describes its handling of personal data in its Privacy Policy.

Links to other sites

Catalogue records can link to yarn makers' pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices. Skeinote does not control them.

Email

If you write to [email protected], the operator receives the message through its email provider, AgentMail. The message and its contact details are used to answer the enquiry and keep a record of the correspondence. Do not send sensitive personal, financial, or health information by email.

Advertising and analytics

Skeinote uses Google Analytics 4 to measure page visits and a small set of interactions. These include completed calculator submissions, their general result status and input-unit category, a separate event when a grams input cannot be calculated because the selected source record has no published mass, guide and methodology links opened from the homepage, manufacturer-source links opened from a result, and use of the Copy link button. The custom events do not contain the selected yarns or entered quantity.

Google Analytics can receive information such as the page visited, approximate location derived from an IP address, device and browser details, and referral information. It may use cookies or similar browser storage. Google explains how Analytics handles data in Safeguarding your data and describes its wider privacy practices in the Google Privacy Policy.

Advertising is not currently enabled. The Google AdSense connection script is present so Google can verify and review the site. Loading it sends a request to Google, which may process information about that request under its Privacy Policy. No ad units are active.

If Google AdSense is enabled later, Google and participating third-party vendors may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, and similar technologies to serve and measure advertising. Google describes the required disclosures in its publisher privacy guidance. A consent mechanism required for a visitor's region will be configured before advertising is served there.

Skeinote does not currently include affiliate links. If that changes, this policy will identify the relevant provider and purpose before the feature is enabled.
